INGREDIENT
Hydrochloride
Not an ingredient in its own right, but the salt form of several added vitamins, as in thiamine hydrochloride and pyridoxine hydrochloride.
Why it turns up in dog food
- The hydrochloride form makes a vitamin stable enough to survive processing and storage, so the nutrient is still present when the food is eaten.
An ingredient on its own tells you very little.
What matters is how much of it there is and where it sits in the list. That is why we weigh
the top five rather than reacting to any single name further down.
